ABC indefinitely suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! after affiliates Sinclair and NexStar raised objections to airing the show. The decision comes in the wake of Kimmel’s monologue following Charlie Kirk’s assassination, which prompted FCC Chair Brendan Carr to warn Disney about the late-night host’s presence on the network. The suspension has sparked backlash from industry guilds and drawn attention from lawmakers, as Kimmel’s future at ABC remains uncertain. Host of KCRW's The Business Kim Masters and her partner in Banter Matt Belloni examine how the intersection of politics and corporate pressure continues to reshape the late-night television landscape.
Very classy if you ask us. Click in for Mamet's chat with Sam Sanders about her book of essays, Does This Make Me Funny? They're going deep on Mamet's most iconic role as Shoshanna Shapiro on the HBO series Girls (complete with a detailed description of everything that she's up to in 2025). Plus, she shares how her husband helped her get ahead of the "Nepo Baby" discourse that was likely to surround her book and tells a harrowing story about a high-powered showrunner. Prepare to speculate hard, even though she'll never tell.
Filmmaker James Gunn is known for injecting humor and ironic music choices into his big-budget films. He put a distinctive stamp on the superhero genre with his Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy for Marvel. Since 2022, he has been co-CEO of DC Studios with Peter Safran, and earlier this summer, he showed the world what he can do with a Superman story. His latest project is season two of the HBO Max series Peacemaker, which stars John Cena as mercenary Chris Smith.
Gunn tells The Treatment about his literary influences, what he believes he and Cena have in common with Peacemaker, and why he uses “cheesy” music in the series.
Vidiots is one of the best places in all of Los Angeles to watch anything. Documentaries about heavy metal always fascinate. Ipso facto, the screening of the first two episodes of Hulu's Into the Void at Vidiots is guaranteed to be a great time. The series explores the epic struggles and the cultural impacts made by Heavy Metal’s most compelling artists. Their intensely personal stories about finding success offer an intoxicating combo of volume and distortion delivered via pulsating tales of murder, addiction, rebellion, and redemption.
But wait, there's more! The screening will be followed by a conversation with executive producers, Jason Eisner, Evan Husney, Kathy Rhoads, and Rita Haney, moderated by KCRW's Dan Wilcox. It's going down on Monday, September 22nd, so click that button to RSVP for free.
