Hi y’all,
As head of KCRW’s Street Team, I think it’s in my nature to go out on the town and see what it has to offer. And now that I’ve got the handy-dandy KCRW app, finding amazing recs and experiences has only gotten easier.
As a result, I finally made it to Max and Helen’s, the all-day breakfast diner on Larchmont from Phil Rosenthal and Nancy Silverton. I pride myself on avoiding places with crazy long waits, but I just had to try that waffle I’ve been hearing so much about! And it did not disappoint. The waffle was super yummy, and the maple butter absolutely made it. The eggs, home fries, and sausage were all top-notch, but the real star of the show, in my opinion, was the milkshake. Our lovely server, Emily, hooked me up with my requested combo of coffee and Oreo. YUM!
That night, I headed to the Silverlake Conservatory of Music’s 25th anniversary benefit concert at the Palladium, and wow, the lineup was killer: Vince Staples, Dave Grohl, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The Conservatory kids performed too, bringing so much energy to the stage. It was such a powerful reminder of the importance of accessible music education for kids (and everyone, for that matter!). If you didn’t know, Flea of the RHCP founded the Conservatory, and we’ve had the pleasure of partnering with them for a handful of our KCRW Family Days recently. Go check them out!
After the concert, I had to make sure to get a solid night’s sleep because Sunday morning, at 8 AM, I attended a training run with Team KCRW. As some of you know, I’ll be running the 5K with Team KCRW next year, and I need all the support I can get! Let me tell you, I’m STILL sore. But I can already see improvements! If you’re interested in joining the team, we still have spots available for the half and full marathons. And we’re hosting another training run on November 7th on the Westside. Come join the squad!

At the forefront of the ‘90s British rock scene was Jarvis Cocker, the founder and frontman of Pulp. He sat down with Elvis Mitchell to discuss a new documentary about the band (Pulp: What Do You Do for an Encore?), and for his treat, Cocker recommended a surrealist novel that is also a meditation on creativity.
At only eight years old, guitarist Julian Lage was introduced to the world as a child prodigy through the documentary film Jules at Eight. Thirty years later, he’s now known as one of the most innovative jazz guitarists in contemporary music. On Press Play, Lage shares lessons from his childhood and talks about the quartet he assembled to create his latest album, Scenes from Above.
From starring in Parks and Recreation to creating the award-winning Netflix series Master of None to touring his many comedy specials, comedian Aziz Ansari has proven himself to be a true multi-hyphenate. On The Treatment, Ansari shares how it felt to direct his first feature film and how the television industry has changed since Master of None premiered.

Joey (Communications):I can’t unsee it… I caught last night’s late show of You Can See Everything. I won’t spoil anything, but it’s a must-see in theaters because nothing’s more uncanny than the big-screen extreme close-up faces of Elizabeth Holmes and her narcissistic partner, Billy Evans, lying through their teeth. My opinion: this film has cemented Nathan Fielder as a national treasure.
Kaci (Traffic): Groovin’ at The Greek The lingering summer humidity hung in the evening air, but it couldn’t match the heat of funk that permeated The Greek as Vulfpeck did what they do best: JAM! If you ever want to smile your face off, dance like nobody’s watching, and hear incredible musicians, do yourself the honor of seeing these people live!
Josh (Sponsorship): Attending the first and only LGBTQ+ histories festival in the U.S. My aunt and I attended theOne Institute's Circa Festival, which featured S. Bear Bergman’s incredibly moving one-man play, The Incredible True Story of Jacques LaFargue, the 18th Century Transgender Jewish Ancestor You’ve Never Heard Of! The show follows LaFargue’s life, and his existence that continues to challenge perceptions of transgender history and identity. This is the best play I've ever seen, and I'm so thankful for the Circa Festival.
We won! Congrats to the Sam Sanders Show and Question Everything teams for winning a handful of Signal Awards! And thank you to those who voted for us, we couldn’t have done it without your support.
In Evan Klemain’s latest Substack, she talks about the art of the bento box and where to find the best ones in the city. It’s the better lunch box!
