Hi friends,

We are always looking ahead at what releases are coming up on the calendar, but this past week we had a few throwbacks you may have noticed in our programming, including Raul Campos revisiting Los Abandon's Mix Tape from 20 years back, featuring a very nice shout-out to "Van Nuys." If you're a fan, you can still win tickets to their show at the Lodge Room this weekend, but you have to enter before the end of the night. Novena also celebrated the 10-year anniversary of Long Beach native Frank Ocean's magnum opus, Blonde, earlier in the week as well with a few selections. Do you remember where you were when Apple exclusively released that album in 2016? And were you with us this past weekend for KCRW Summer Nights with Taste of Downtown Long Beach? We had a blast and have more in the works, so we hope you can join in on our upcoming events the next few weeks.

Also, if you're a fan of P-Funk, G-Funk, and Parliament, you may have heard lots of selections from our special guest and multi-disciplinary artist Lauren Halsey on MBE this past week. Lauren is celebrated worldwide for her innovative art installations, including "Sister Dreamer" here in LA, and is going to be redesigning the entire Hollywood Bowl campus for a fun, family-friendly experience called emajendat featuring performances by Erykah Badu, The Alchemist, Flea, DJ Pee .Wee (Anderson .Paak) and more

Now, let's return to the present tense to see who is atop our chart this week.

 At the top:
  • Leon Bridges – Happiness Anytime: Part 2   Leon Bridges slid down to the #4 spot last week, but we had a feeling he may climb back to the top, following the second EP release of his forthcoming Happiness Anytime album, and we were right. He hits the top for the fourth time over the past six weeks, reminding us that the joyful groove of his dance-floor-ready collaboration with J Lloyd and Lydia Kitto of Jungle (who are trailing just behind at #2), is the sound that is defining our summer at KCRW. We're currently moving to the lead track "Talk It Over".

New Notable:
  • 1LDK – 1LDK–  Debuting at #15 this week is the self-titled debut album from Tokyo indietronica pop duo 1LDK, which is a Japanese term for a 1-bedroom apartment. The bedroom pop comes to our attention via KCRW DJ Olive Kimoto, and "Second Choice" is currently on rotation.

    • ViRG - "Criminal Record" [Single] – Debuting at #29 is one that was introduced to us by your voice of choice, Henry Rollins, who has said on his Friday night show that "Criminal Record" is probably his favorite song of the year. We might have to agree. It comes from Leesburg, Virginia-based musician Piano Whitman aka ViRG, which we assume is short for Virginia, and is inspired by an experience on a dating app.

  • Bayonne – "Forget" [Single] – Last but certainly not least is the latest from Texas-based psych pop musician Roger Sellers aka Bayonne, debuting at #30. Part of his forthcoming fourth album, Filters, Out September 4th, finds Sellers entering a new phase of existence as he works through the grief around losing his father and into a place of acceptance. KCRW Presents Bayonne at the Lodge Room on November 21st.
