Hi friends,
It's halftime at Coachella, and it was a great first weekend. Did any of you catch KCRW DJ Wyldeflower's desert debut at the Mojave tent on Sunday? Speaking of which, many of our KCRW DJs will be attending this second weekend, so keep your eyes out, and please do say hello. We all got to see some inspiring news for mankind with the safe return of Artemis II as the sun set in San Diego last Friday... We now return to the music breaking ground here on earth at KCRW, including the landing of a new number one...
At the top:
Thundercat - Distracted– The new album from the Grammy-winning bassist, singer, producer, and jazz-funk-soul-psych-pop infuser sits at the top of the chart this week. The musical genius has attracted features from many KCRW household names like Tame Impala, Flying Lotus, Lil Yachty, A$AP Rocky, The Lemon Twigs, WILLOW, Channel Tres, and a rare posthumous vocal from the late great Mac Miller. Stay tuned for an upcoming live session we can't wait to bring you soon.
New & Notable
Lewis OfMan – 50KWTTS– The third album from the French producer debuts at #4, with samples taken from his vinyl-digging trips around the world. Hopefully we can get a guest DJ set for his next tour through LA. Hit play on "Watch Me" (feat. Marie Davidson) for a real mood boost.
Fundido – Get A Grip [Single] – Latane Hughes and Billy Scher have been DJ'ing the Brooklyn scene for over a decade, but they are releasing their own original cosmic house, Italo, and balearic beats now as Fundido on the venerable DFA Records, and it feels like it fits in perfectly with the music that helped define the label in the early '00s. Their latest single (debuting at #7) enjoys a nice seat in the top 10.
Catch up on all the music and subscribe to our Top 30 Spotify playlist, which is updated weekly here! Great to listen to while washing dishes or on long commutes, or even if flying to outer space.
