A Theatrical Reenactment of a Nextdoor Mask Fight

If you’re on a local community website like Nextdoor, chances are you’ve seen your neighbors go off on each other about masks. Someone thinks you should wear one while walking your dog. Someone else vehemently disagrees. Maybe you can’t help but chime in. The thread gets longer, and uglier. Why do we love to fight online? KCRW asked a group of actors to reenact a particularly lively mask debate, and then examined the pitfalls of the human brain with a cognitive neuroscientist.

Big Sur’s Dolan Fire Destroys Condor Sanctuary

A California Condor sanctuary in Big Sur was completely destroyed by the Dolan Fire last month. It’s one of only a few places where endangered condors are captured, bred and released to restore the population along the central California coast. The Ventana Wildlife Society aims to raise $500,000 to rebuild the facilities and continue its work. Learn about the organization and consider making a donation.

Venues Light Up Red to Demand Federal Support

The Santa Barbara Bowl, Lobero Theater and venues across the country will light up their facilities in red tonight to encourage Congress to pass the Restart Act, which would provide financial assistance for the hardest-hit businesses and the people they employ. The live music and performing arts industry will likely be the last to restart during the pandemic due to an intrinsic element: crowds. Check out the hashtag #RedAlertRESTART and share images of venues and live events workers you love.
