Sudan Archives, government name Brittney Denise Parks, has always been our type. But the LA artist brings fresh heat in this new single from her latest album The BPM (due out this October). With dance-groove production that reminds us of the fun and friendly side of the 1990s, the perfect blend of breezy bars & singalong chorus, and a fun-with-avatars video — this boppy track’s competing for song of the summer.
Gird your loins, everything about this track from internet-famous absurdist creative collective Little Big is, well, big-big: Big beats, big brass, big bold vocals that *will* remind you for a moment of the Macarena. It also comes with a big, visually arresting video which proudly proclaims it was handcrafted by human artists (unlike the Italian Brainrot material also associated with the band). The result is one big track that you’ll never, ever get outta your head.
Just cause it’s summer doesn’t mean everything’s gotta be bright and sunny, here’s one for your moonlit moods. London-based producer Daniel Avery is known for slowed-down house that drips like honey, but still brings the industrial sex drive tech-heads want. On this single from his upcoming collaborative album Tremor, the producer tapped the talents of ethereal singer Cecile Believe. From there, underwater sensuality in the vid was only logical.
Step this way into our avant-garde wing for a moment to enjoy this stimulating new single from three-top Harry the Nightgown. Cool, confident, and clearly dedicated to freaking you out, the trio brings a collection of tricks including 8-bit-era flourishes, discordant breakbeats, and unexpectedly lush lulls to keep you guessing the whole way through. Shoutout to wired headphones.
Here at KCRW Music, we tend to swoon over bands making music that sounds straight outta the midwestern garage “studio.” So naturally, Good Flying Birds are our latest crush. Also known as GFB, the band is five-friends-strong and considers themselves a celebration of the indie sound and scene upon which they were clearly weaned. So much to love here: lo-fi production, tight songwriting, basement gatherings, home videos, third places… the good life.
The Trump administration’s proposal to remove $1.3M yearly in federal funding from KCRW is now in effect.
