A couple interesting follow-ons from this week’s episode, “Can Journalism Save a Marriage?” which I am really proud of by the way and encourage you to listen to!
In the episode, our producer Zach St. Louis reads me an example of one of “Isaac’s takes” from the newsletter Tangle, about the response to Hurricane Helene. (Isaac is the founder of Tangle, journalist Isaac Saul.) Isaac’s take on the Helene response is that, despite lots of haters saying otherwise, the Biden administration has been doing everything in the federal government’s power to help in the wake of the storm. Isaac writes:
Biden and Harris have actually pulled every lever federal executives can in a situation like this. None of the critics that I posted above can say exactly what they want them to do that they aren’t already doing, and if you’re planning on writing in to tell me that I am shilling for Harris or being a leftwing hack by calling out lies online, you better be prepared to tell me exactly what I’ve gotten wrong here.
Well…people wrote in, saying pretty much that. And Tangle, to its credit, has been sharing that response, and then responding to the response. It’s worth checking out here:
The other thing I wanted to share: in his interview for this episode, Isaac offered Zach a prediction – or a prognosis, maybe? – about the future state of American politics. As someone who runs a newsletter with a readership that is evenly politically split, who every day is comparing arguments from both ends of the ideological spectrum, whose writing did help save a marriage (as we document in this week’s episode!), he’s interestingly positioned to offer such a prognosis. And what I found surprising about what he said, is that it’s hopeful. Check it out:
