We're back after a month of uncharted waters and boy, music is picking up swiftly in 2026 with big album announcements coming from every corner.
At the top:
Drama – Platonic Romance – Chicago-based genre-defying duo DRAMA — top our chart with their third album, Platonic Romance, creating a soundscape that is deeply vulnerable and irresistibly danceable. Also, shout out to the Chicago Bears, who provided plenty of exciting DRAMA in the NFL playoffs.
Starting Strong:
Dry Cleaning – Secret Love – trailing just behind at #2, but off to a great start this year is another third album release, this time from English post-punk band Dry Cleaning. Secret Love is produced by one of our faves, Cate Le Bon, and frontperson Florence Shaw's spoken-word performances draw comparisons to other indie legends like Laurie Anderson and Sue Tompkins of Life Without Buildings.
SAULT – Chapter 1 – It's never too early in the year for a surprise album from the enigmatic UK collective SAULT, whose Chapter 1, released with no singles just over a week ago, has been on rotation ever since, landing at #3.
New & Notable (Album Announcements):
Fcukers – "L.U.C.K.Y" [Single] – Brooklyn-based dance duo rounds out the top 5 with their new single, "L.U.C.K.Y," which will be part of their debut album, Ö, produced by Kenneth Blume (FKA Kenny Beats) and out March 27th. I know we're early, but this could be our breakthrough artist this year.
Haute & Freddy – "Dance The Pain Away" [Single] – Speaking of breakthrough artists, local baroque besties, Haute & Freddy, are at #12 with their addictive single, "Dance The Pain Away," which we premiered on MBE. Their highly anticipated debut album, Big Disgrace, arrives March 13th with their new major label home, Atlantic Records.
Moby – "When It’s Cold I’d Like to Die (feat. Jacob Lusk)" [Single] – As part of the announcement of his 23rd album, Future Quiet, out February 23rd, KCRW fave Moby releases a breathtaking new version of his Stranger-Things hit song "When It's Cold I'd Like to Die" featuring Gabriels frontman Jacob Lusk. Landing at #20, it will for sure stop you in your tracks.
The Mountain Goats – Through This Fire Across from Peter Balkan
Jill Scott – “Beautiful People” [Single]
Alexis Taylor – “Out Of Phase (feat. Lola Kirke)” [Single]
Sarathy Korwar – There Is Beauty, There Already
MEMORIALS – “Cut Glass Hammer” [Single]
The Olympians – “In Search of a Revival Pt. 1 / Strawberry Kiwi” [Single]
