There’s something so comforting about the familiar, time-honored, and well-worn. Revisit the dickens out of A Christmas Carol this season, because like this past year and half, it’s a good reminder of what matters — family, friends, caring, and sharing. Read the book, catch it on TV, or, better yet, get yourself to the Ahmanson theater for the thrill of the stage and the warm fuzzies of it all.
The Barnsdall Art Park Foundation partnered with LA’s Parks Foundation to revitalize the park’s 130-year-old olive grove. But this wasn’t just any revitalization — with an org dedicated to art and design, of course, it became an exhibition (plus online auction). Go check out the group exhibition that shows the transformation of recently pruned and saved olive wood limbs into creative new objects by 22 renowned LA artists, designers, architects, and landscape architects.
With Hanukkah beginning just three days after Thanksgiving, that’s a whole lot of food and celebration. May as well lean into it with baker and blogger Beth Lee’s soufganiyot (jelly donuts). Lee’s recipe is inspired by her grandmother, or bubbe, who never kept a recipe box, so every ingredient and measurement was memorized. And don’t worry about the oil — Lee reminds bakers of the important symbolism behind the use of oil in cooking during the eight-night celebration.
If adult coloring books won’t cut it as a pre-dinner activity this holiday, try something new and pretty! East Olivia’s Fall Flower Therapy box comes with an assortment of blooms from the dreamiest roses to burgundy ranunculuses to help you decompress while you play and create multiple arrangements for your table and space. Or, if you’re the do-it-for-me type, check out their very autumnal pre-made arrangements with fallen leaves and rust bunny tails. Order by 11/17 for Thanksgiving delivery.
As you surely realize, November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month (is it just us, or are these getting more and more specific?), so the Wallis Annenberg PetSpace is providing a prime opportunity to celebrate. This Saturday, you can meet a new “young at heart” kitty or pupper to welcome into the family, just in time for the holidays! They’ll also have family-friendly activities like bingo, arts & crafts, and a prize raffle
