Good Food and KCRW Music Present Sound Bites

DO: Sound Bites

Peanut butter and jelly, coffee and cream, beans and rice, Hall and Oates — all famous pairings. Know what else goes well together? Food and music! We dare you to imagine a backyard BBQ without a single tune. A clambake in total silence. A taco stand with nary a tuba. You’re imagining in gray, aren’t you? Now turn up the color and join us for Sound Bites, a celebration of food and music with Evan Kleiman, Anne Litt, John Gourley (Portugal. The Man.), and Roy Choi. It’s gonna be flames and guitar licks!

P.S....take a quick survey when you RSVP to get a cool gift while supplies last.

Speakers include such heavy hitters as Jane Goodall, Alexandra Cousteau, and Dolores Huerta. Don’t miss it! Bonus: the event will be captioned in English and Spanish.

GET: Fried Chicken

Evan Kleiman recently embarked on a noble and treacherous journey —  to find Southern California’s top fried chicken shacks. She reports back on her favorites broken up into five (or six) categories: classic, hot, Japanese, Korean, sandwiches, and miscellaneous. One timely tip, Chef Kuniko of Pikunico will be collaborating with Chef Jihee Kim of Perilla LA this weekend. And if you’re ready to skillet-fry your own chicken, consult Jonathan Gold’s “Barefoot” recipe.

Don’t miss the extraordinary volume of tenacity, experience, and intelligence in that room!

Made in L.A. 2020

SEE: Made in L.A. 2020: a version

”Wonder Twin powers, shape of a cool exhibit!” is what the Hammer and The Huntington said when they partnered up for this unique endeavor. Next batch of tickets drop tomorrow morning for a chance to check out works by 30 LA-based artists presented at both institutions — two versions that make up the whole. Installations, videos, films, sculptures, performances, and paintings, all free with advance reservations and limited capacity. Worth the early rise.
